Complete Renovation

The scale of this museum can only really be appreciated from the air. The museum’s historic site comprises two spacious interior courtyards nestled in the heart of Munich and framed by six distinctive buildings between St.-Jakobs-Platz, Sebastiansplatz, Nieserstraße, Rosental, Rindermarkt and Oberanger. The oldest is the 16th century historic armory, where the “Historische Stadtmuseum” first opened in 1888. These buildings are currently under refurbishment and remodeling with their reopening scheduled for 2031. As part of this renovation, the inner courtyard of the Gsaengertrakt will be covered and house a new exhibition cube.
