All Events & Films

The Münchner Stadtmuseum will shortly undergo a full refurbishment to make ist architecture and displays fit for the future. Before we close on January 8, 2024, we would like to invite everyone to join us for two months of celebrations and a chance to say a temporary goodbye to the museum, "Until we meet again"! From November 8, we will host a series of events and offer free admission to all our exhibitions.

Most of the events at the Münchner Stadtmuseum are held in German. Please refer to the German program for details.

urban bodies project — munich

Decolonising audiowalk with dance interventions (English only)

The audience will listen to audio files – a fusion of historical facts, personal biographies, music and interviews – through headphones while walking from site to site. A performative utopia of dance will emerge in which urban space is occupied and intervened with dance and bodies. History will become present, and memorial sites of Munich will become visible.

The URBAN BODIES PROJECT is an ongoing artistic, urban and dance exploration of the colonial past of the city in which the project takes place. So far, six projects of this kind have been realised. Each city has a different relationship to the colonial past or to other historical power relations: In some, this past is clearly visible in buildings, architecture, and monuments, in others it seems to be hidden at first and only comes to light when looking behind the façades.

The Mexican-German choreographer Yolanda Gutiérrez wants to further develop this dance and scientific examination of colonial history in an urban context in Munich. Through the fusion of historical facts, personal biographies, music and interviews, which are listened to as audio files via headphones, a dance and performative utopia is created in which the urban space is occupied and intervened. History becomes present and is reflected in the present.
