Donation Ann Mandelbaum

The internationally renowned photographer Ann Mandelbaum (b. 1945) has recently made a major donation to the Münchner Stadtmuseum’s Photography Collection of 88 of her original works created between 1989 and 2022. This kind gift fills a gap in the Collection’s contemporary photography section. Mandelbaum’s work, which occupies a niche somewhere between genres as diverse as body art and still life, extends far beyond the confines of surrealism, with which it is often compared. Her exploration of physical sensations is unique in the history of photography, both past and present.

A screen presentation a of selected works will on show in the Foyer of the Münchner Stadtmuseum until the end of January.

This donation has been documented in a volume about the artist entitled "Matter" published by Hatje Cantz. The book, with contributions by Heloise Conesa and Ulrich Pohlmann, is available from the museum shop and the online shop, at € 54.
