FORUM 041: K49814 – Atmen ohne Pause (Breathing without pause)

The Münchner Stadtmuseum’s 41st FORUM contemporary photography exhibition features “Atmen ohne Pause” (Breathing without pause), a sensitive and powerful work that tackles the highly charged theme of industrial animal slaughter. This collection of images by the photographer and political activist, who works under the pseudonym K49814, documents processes that take place out of the public eye.

Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!

"Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!" is a collection of spectacular snapshots of a turbulent and legendary age in the history of art, music, fashion and film – the 1960s and ’70s. These decades were known for upheaval, provocation and creative energy.

The Münchner Stadtmuseum is mounting an exhibition entitled BIER.MACHT.MÜNCHEN (Munich – Powered by Beer) to mark the 500th anniversary of the Beer Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) in Bavaria. It features a comprehensive collection of over 700 items, and seeks to recount the stories behind one of the city’s most important industries and review issues connected with this key part of its cultural heritage.

FORUM 040: Samuel Henne – „musée imaginaire“

Im Mittelpunkt des fotografischen Werks von Samuel Henne steht die Auseinandersetzung mit dem vielschichtigen Wechselverhältnis von Fotografie und Skulptur. Seine seriell konzipierten Arbeiten zeigen eindrückliche, für die Kamera inszenierte Bildkonstruktionen und Bildwelten, deren künstlerischer Ausgangspunkt Variationen einzelner Objekte bilden.

The role of museums, since their earliest days, has always been that of collecting, exhibiting and conserving art and cultural objects. In the 19th century, in particular, “successful collecting” involved bringing together objects of lasting relevance in a targeted yet comprehensive manner.

FORUM 039: Jonas Opperskalski – Goodbye Mr. President

Tel Aviv-based photographer Jonas Opperskalski has been exploring the younger generation’s quest for identity in Israel, Palestine and the countries of the Mediterranean since 2011. The lack of political vision in the region has led the younger generation, in particular, to live in a kind of vacuum where the main challenges they face are a search for belonging, a clash between religious and secular influences, and economic uncertainty.

Münchner Geigentage 2016

Munich’s violin makers, building on the huge success of their exhibitions in 2007, 2010 and 2013, will mark three more years with another show devoted to exploring the development of violin and bow making in Munich.

Wilfried Hiller – Music Meets Sculpture and Painting

Munich composer Wilfried Hiller celebrates his 75th birthday on 15 March 2016. To mark the occasion, the Münchner Stadtmuseum Music Collection is holding two concerts in his honor. At Hiller’s request, it has organized a small exhibition of bronze sculptures and paintings by Antje Tesche-Mentzen which will be on display during the period between the two concerts.
