Migration Moves the City

The Münchner Stadtmuseum and the Munich City Archives (Stadtarchiv München) are currently involved in “Migration Moves the City”, a joint project to investigate the influence of migration on the development of Munich and its lasting impact on the city.

Provenance

In September 2011, a fixed-term research project was established in collaboration with the Office of Provenance Investigation and Research in Berlin. The investigation of artefacts of uncertain provenance will encompass the museum’s collections of paintings, drawings and graphic art, plastic art, arts & crafts, coins and medals, textiles and musical instruments.

Project: Archäologie München

More than 250 archaeological digs have been carried out in Munich’s old town alone. What happens to the artifacts once they are excavated? The major excavations in Marienhof Square in 2011/2012 prompted a number of state and municipal actors of to set up the "Archäologie München" working group which operates under the aegis of the Archaeological Collection of the Bavarian State.
