Rules of conduct for visiting the museum in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic

The Münchner Stadtmuseum is partially open for visitors.

The permanent exhibitions "Typically Munich!“ including "Migration Moves the City – Changing Perspectives“ and the collection Puppet Theater / Fairground Attractions as well as the special exhibitions "World in Transition. From Otto Dix to August Sander – Art of the 1920s" and "Ready to go! Shoe-motion” are on view.

The permanent exhibitions National Socialism in Munich and the collection Music will remain closed until further notice.

Day Tickets

If possible, please pay for your entrance tickets without cash. We accept all Credit Cards except American Express.

Entrance & Barrier-free Access

The Munich City Museum is entered solely through the access at St.-Jakobs-Platz. Visitors with mobility restrictions or prams should use the barrier-free access on Oberanger as usual. The museum must be entered via the inner courtyard and exited on Sebastiansplatz.

Compulsory Face Masks

Face masks must be worn throughout the Munich City Museum.

Rules of Hygiene and Conduct

  • Keep a distance to other people of at least 1.5 metres.

  • Wash your hands regularly and observe the sneezing and coughing etiquette.

  • Be considerate towards other visitors:

    • Keep to the right in order to ensure the minimum distance to on-coming people.
    • Wait at narrow entrances and stairs until the area beyond is free again.
    • Do not enter smaller rooms unless the safety distance of 1.5 to 2 metres can be upheld.
    • Do not dwell too long in front of individual exhibits in order to allow other visitors to look at the works.
  • The use of lifts is reserved for visitors with mobility restrictions. Please observe the rules of hygiene in lifts and let other passengers get out of the lift – whilst maintaining the safety distance – before you get out yourself.

Audio guides

  • Our audio guides for the exhibition "Typically Munich!“ are cleaned and disinfected thoroughly after use.
  • You are welcome to bring personal headphones and connect them to our audio guide (jack plug)
  • Headphones are available at our cashier‘s office for 1 €.

Tour guide system

  • All tours are under obligation to use the tour guide system. The system is made up of a transmitter with a microphone for the guide as well as a receiver and a single earphone for the recipient
  • Our tour guide system is cleaned and disinfected thoroughly after use.
  • Visitors are welcome to bring their personal headphones and connect them to our audio guide (jack plug)
  • Headphones are available at our cashier‘s office for 1 €.
  • Tour guides are welcome to bring their personal microphone and connect it to our audio guide (jack plug)
