Highlights of the Münchner Stadtmuseum

To promote the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the concept of a mascot was created – a tradition that all major sports events have followed since. The choice fell on a dachshund with stripes in the official colors of the Games. "Waldi," as the dog was christened, was available in an array of different materials and forms: “in wood, cloth, terry cloth or fur fabric; with a wagging tail on wheels, as a stuffed animal or puzzle – and even in a version to sit on," as the "Official Olympics Guide" put it. "Waldi" can be found in the permanent exhibition "Typically Munich!" in the Arena Hall.
