Schattenfänger

Interactive Silhouettes Installation

by BADABOOMBERLIN, 2020

What if Munich’s 19th-century shadow puppets could move? Where would they go? Perhaps to explore an alternative world of knights’ castles and seafarers? What would they do once they got there? This installation offers you the opportunity to actively participate. You can try making shadows that are not your own, dance and switch roles, now a knight and now a monster. By capturing your movements, the "Schattenfänger" (Shadow Catcher) breathes life into your silhouettes and projects them onto a big screen.

This interactive installation draws on Munich’s 19th-century Épinal prints and shadow puppets from the Puppet Theater/Fairground Attraction collection.
