International Silent Film Days

International Silent Film Days

Find the individual shows in our current schedule (in German)

This year's selection again offers all types, themes, genres, and styles of silent film. Renowned works in new restorations are presented alongside lesser-known or recently rediscovered titles. All screenings feature the best possible versions, either in 35mm prints or high-quality digital formats, often making their German premieres. The musical accompaniments will be provided by Richard Siedhoff and Mykyta Sierov from Weimar, Neil Brand and Stephen Horne from London, Sabrina Zimmermann and Mark Pogolski from Munich, as well as Günter Buchwald and Frank Bockius from Freiburg, all of whom are world-renowned film musicians and frequent guests at the Film Museum. Expect imaginative stories from the Orient and Latin America, documentary images from Persia and 1920s Moscow, historical epics produced with unbelievable effort, and socially critical looks at contemporary life, as well as animated films that continue the series celebrating the anniversary of the Puppet Theater collection at the City Museum. The first films by female pioneers like Lotte Reiniger or Marie Harder, as well as works featuring well-known and sadly forgotten comedians, will also be showcased. On three Sundays, archivists and film restorers from Vienna, Düsseldorf, and Munich will provide insights into the work of their film archives.
